On August 23, the LM football team played their season opening game at Bensalem High School. After losing many pivotal seniors from last year, the team went into this game looking to build up momentum for the rest of the season. In a hard-fought battle, the game resulted with a high-scoring 28-41 thriller. Despite the tough loss, the team showed many promising moments, paving the way for an exciting season to come.
The game started off slow with multiple punts, and after the first quarter the score remained zero to zero. Going into the second quarter, Bensalem opened up the scoring with a quick touchdown through the air. A few possessions later, Bensalem reached the end zone again with a tough completion into the team’s double coverage. LM’s offense quickly responded with a rushing touchdown from running back Shane Herosisima ’25, but with less than two minutes left in the half, Bensalem capitalized on the LM’s defense with yet another touchdown through the air.
The team came into the second half down 21-7, and in need of points. On one of the opening possessions, quarterback Nick Deluca ’26 led the team down the field and ended the drive with a ten yard touchdown pass to Jace Rotheberg ’25 to cut the lead to seven. Unfortunately, Bensalem quickly responded with a kick return touchdown and a fifty yard passing touchdown to bring the lead up to 21. Bensalem continued their scoring barrage in the start of the fourth quarter with yet another touchdown. After scoring 21 unanswered points, Bensalem went up four scores, putting the game virtually out of reach for the LM. Despite this, LM finished the game on a positive note, with a 15 yard fade caught in the end zone by wide receiver Tommy Burke ’26, as well as another touchdown pass to Paul Mezey-McMahon ’26.
This final surge closed the gap to two scores, but it was too little too late. The season opener ended as a loss for LM, but there were still multiple standout performances on the offensive side of the ball. Deluca ended with a stat line of 250 yards passing and three touchdowns. Other stellar performances included Burke, who ended with 98 yards and a touchdown, Hermosisima, who finished with ninety yards and a touchdown, along with a strong showing from the offensive line. When asked about the tough loss, Deluca stated, “We just gotta keep working. Once both sides of the ball start clicking we’ll be good.” There is still a long season ahead, and the Aces will use this loss to learn and grow.
