The media networks that have aligned with the Democrat Party all have one thing in common: they’re dying. Aligning themselves with one political party has killed their reputation as well as their ability to speak the truth on the air. And now that Donald Trump has secured his second trip to the White House, it’s getting worse for these media networks. According to The Wrap, MSNBC and CNN, two left-leaning political networks, have experienced significantly reduced viewership since Trump’s victory; MSNBC lost 35 percent of its average viewers while CNN saw a 27 percent decrease. This is a clear call for change; the constant bickering regarding the biased content published by the media is tiresome and demands more trustworthy and unbiased news rather than constant negativity and hate in the headlines.
Lately, it seems that the Democratic Party’s influence on CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC is putting the networks in trouble. Specifically, ABC, CBS, and NBC have been presenting news relating to Trump and Harris in a very biased way. From analysis done by the Media Research Center, 85 percent of Trump coverage since July has been negative, while Harris coverage was 78 percent positive.
This is a serious issue, as it limits the Republican Party’s ability to present their arguments fairly and gives them an unfair disadvantage in their campaigning. But Fox News, a Republican leaning network, also expresses bias, and that can’t be forgotten. It recently faced a massive lawsuit and had to pay $787 million dollars to Dominion Voting Systems over the claims that there was fraud that affected the results of the 2020 presidential election. We need to move on from such biased media and create unbiased, 50-50 coverage with factual information for every American in this country.
The Pew Research Center did a study in 2018 and found that 75 percent of people wanted fair and unbiased news networks compared to the system in place right now. I’ve heard many people explain how they now go out of their way to find information from both sides of the aisle, or just resources that are unbiased. It’s such a simple request that a vast majority of Americans want, so why hasn’t it happened? What lies behind these major media networks hiring systems?
Like always, it comes down to the people with money, the owners. Most of the major media outlets are owned by liberals, making their hires and programs biased towards the left. For Fox News, we also see hires that make their news biased to the right.
Since news companies will probably refuse to make any changes to their shows, the government must work together to pass legislation for change. First, we need to find a way for news networks to hire individuals with a contract that they can’t express their political views. Any person that violates this must be removed from the network, as that would corrupt the integrity of the program. Second, all on-air stories must not include an advantage to one party, as if there are many viewers watching at that hour every day, it could spread bias to a large group of people. And last, there needs to be a way to include guests and contributors without resulting in an argument or bias. Having Democrats and Republicans on at the same time in the past has caused numerous explosive arguments on air, and that just isn’t news, it’s a reality TV show.
Creating an unbiased, fair, and nonpartisan major media will bring what the people are looking for and give opportunity for citizens to learn about the candidates and their policies. Giving an equal presentation of views and policies for the Republican and Democrat Parties will ultimately give the people a fair baseline of information from which to choose their candidates and allow news programs to accurately inform the citizens of our nation about the current stories.
