Mrs. Rehak reflects on her time with the memorable senior class

Class of 2023 — As I reflect on your class and our time together, I realize that there has never been and will never be a class like you again. After teaching for over 20 years, classes start to get mixed up and meld together, but you will always stand out. You’re the first class that I’ve ever sponsored, the first class I’ve ever taught in a virtual and hybrid setting, the first class to adopt me as their “parent” away from home. You’re also one of the most spirited groups I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. You’re the class of many firsts for me and I will never forget you for it. It has been truly enjoyable watching you mature and grow over these past four years.

When I interviewed for my job at LMHS, I completely bombed the first round. I cried in my car thinking my chances were over, but to my surprise, I got called back. The very first thing Mr. Hughes asked me at the second interview was what I wished I could have said but didn’t during the first round. I answered and said, “I didn’t get a chance to express how much I love teaching and, if given the chance, I would treat every kid in LM like they were my own.” Every day, I hope that I have lived up to my words because I  sincerely think of each of you like my own and it’s been an honor to be called your teacher.

As you embark on your journey towards the future, there are a few pieces of advice that I would like to share with you that I’ve learned from a tree. First and foremost, stand tall and proud. No matter how unworthy you feel, keep going and remember your worth. Secondly, go out on a limb. By taking risks and trying new things, you may find opportunities for success that you would have missed if you stayed in your comfort zone. Thirdly, drink plenty of water to stay healthy and hydrated. Fourthly, be content with your natural beauty. Accept and appreciate yourself and never conform to external standards or expectations. Lastly, remember your roots. Never forget who you are and where you came from.

In conclusion, the future can be both exciting and daunting, but you can navigate it with confidence and grace. Stay curious, be persistent, build strong relationships, embrace change, and take care of yourself. With all these tools, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Congratulations, and best of luck to you all in your future endeavors!
