In the 2025-2026 season, LM girls’ basketball (LMGB) faced a tough year. After losing three crucial seniors last year, including Megan Walters ’25 who is now playing basketball at Grinnell College, two out of three current seniors being out for the season injured, both of whom would have most likely been starters, and a star sophomore transferring at the conclusion of last school year, LMGB was going to experience a rebuilding year. Despite all of these key losses, the team had a successful year, going 12–10 on the season.
After a rough start to the season, with four consecutive losses, the Aces were able to break the streak and continued on to win nine straight games. One of the most impactful wins of the season occurred on January 13 against Radnor High School. The Aces put up a stellar performance against the Raptors, which ended in a crucial three-point win. Key players in this game included Natalia Kasmer ’28 scoring eighteen points and four assists, Arry Glover ’27 with ten points, and Myla Major ’27 with seven points and fourteen rebounds. Another impressive win came later that week on January 15 against rival Harriton High School. The Aces would go on to win 49–26 against the Rams, with standout performances from Kasmer with 26 points and seven rebounds and Ava Shippen ’29, who had seven points and four rebounds. Shippen stands as a freshman with an encouraging future for the program with her incredible speed and impressive footwork.
While the Aces didn’t quite make it into the Central League playoffs, they still have a very promising future in store, with Kasmer making first team all-Central League and Ella Liberatoscioli ’28 making honorable mention all-Central League, and promising incoming classes. Kasmer had a historical season this year, scoring a career high 31 points against Ridley High School. She also added an impressive 397 points to her already existing 208 points earned last year. Kasmer is on par to score 1,000 points in her career, the first time in over fifteen years for LM Girls basketball. She was also the first LMGB member to make first team all-Central League since 2012. Liberatoscioli averaged 8.6 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game this season. She achieved two double-doubles on the year and had a career-high nineteen points and seventeen rebounds.
For the 2026-2027 season, the Aces will be returning eleven out of the twelve active players, including all five current starters. When asked about what is needed to be improved upon for this upcoming season, Clara Burris ’27 commented that “we need more spirit and attention with the limited practice times we have during the season.” Next year the Aces have high hopes of making it to the central and district playoffs as they continue to get better and improve. While this season may not have had a historical impact for the team, throughout the winter season there were plenty of memories that were made. “One of my favorite memories was the bus rides home where we would just blast music and sing and dance,” noted Lianna Wang ’26. The Aces put in a lot of hard work this season, and it truly showed both on and off the court.
