With the new school year starting, the hallways seem to flood with freshmen. By now, they’ve begun adjusting to their schedules and exploring activities at LM. Given this, The Merionite decided to interview a student (Ari Leontopoulos-Cochran from Welsh Valley Middle School) for a more personal account… with a slight twist!

Q: How is it navigating the school?

A: I’d say that this place is like a maze. I’ve spent so many times doing twenty laps on the third floor just to realize that I was supposed to be on the second one. It’s like a labyrinth.

Q: How do you feel about the choice of clubs and classes?

A: I think there’s a humongous selection, which is great. I love that because in middle school we didn’t have that much of a choice and there wasn’t enough to do in the first place.

Q: What middle school did you go to?

A: I went to Welsh Valley—the best one of course. Top tier.

Q: Did you keep your middle school language?

A: No, actually, I took Latin and then swapped into Spanish.

Q: Do you have/want to have a locker?

A: Yes, I want a locker just because it’s easier if, at the beginning of the day, I want to drop off things for activities like swim practice.

Q: Did you keep middle school friends in high school?

A: Yes. Basically all of them!

Q: What is your opinion on Lunch and Learn?

A: I think it’s a little confusing, especially because—as I said—this place is like a labyrinth, so I always forget where my Lunch and Learn classroom is. But it’s also nice to have the time to visit any teacher.

Q: Do you like advisory?

A: I mean, it’s nice to have the break during that short time and maybe talk to kids that you don’t have class with.

Q: How do you feel about earlier start/end times?

A: I don’t really mind them. It doesn’t affect me too much.
