New clubs in review

As we kick off the school year, it’s time to settle down to the routine of school, sports, clubs, and sleep. While the fall sports season is already underway, there are still opportunities to spice up your after-school activities–and maybe add something to that college application. This year is especially exciting for us here at LM because there are a bunch of newly added clubs that have something for everybody!

The first new club LM has to offer this year is Power of Blue, headed by Emma Maloney ’25 and Reagan Farcus ’25. This club is a new chapter of the Power of Blue community organization, founded by Annie Nathan in the midst of the COVID pandemic. The aim of POB is to create new opportunities for teens to get involved in and raise money for local causes they care about. As a group, they fundraise by going to events like charity walks and Philadelphia sports games. They also hold meetings to contribute to organizations around Philadelphia by making and donating things like care packages. If you enjoy or are interested in clubs like BuildOn and or the blood drive, this club is for you!

LM Media Team is another newly founded club, whose goal is to “cover LM through digital media in all different ways.” It is led by Chris Bitterman ’25, Elias Dutwin ’25, and Jonah Labovitz ’25. The club plans to partner with the LM student body by covering LM sports events and publishing information on LM student athletes. It will create opportunities to practice reporting, graphic design, and more. There are three main departments, each headed by one of the previously mentioned students: photography, videography, and graphic design. If you have wanted to improve your media skills, or are just interested in the media world, consider joining this techy new team in the fall. No experience is necessary.

Furthermore, Girls Spark, run by Ilana Mintz ‘25, focuses on women empowerment, with the goal of being a safe space for LM students to learn important skills and have important conversations. These can include self defense workshops, financial skills lectures, mental health open discussions, and many others. This club strives to support those who are struggling and offers teen girls a way to communicate and learn about important aspects of life. If you’d like to get involved in an empowerment club or are interested in any of the areas Girls Spark offers, check this club out!

These are just a few of the amazing new clubs that LM has to offer, and involvement from students like you make them all the more fun and worthwhile. From tech to talks to volunteer work, this fraction of the LM club roster has something for everybody. If any of these are interesting to you, feel free to reach out to the student heads or the activities directors, Mr. Stroup and Ms. Shalon. This year is going to be a great one and joining one of these clubs might help make yours a bit better!
