Love is in the air! With the arrival of February, Valentine’s Day celebrations begin to take shape throughout the community. LM students and teachers are planning to enjoy the holiday in various ways with their partners, friends, and family.
LM couples are celebrating Valentine’s Day in unique and fun ways! The most popular plan among LM students is going out to an upscale restaurant. Chloe Jarbah ’27 says, “Me and my boyfriend usually go out to a nice dinner and this year we’re planning to go to Continental in the city which is always so good.” Ryan Cromer ’27 shares, “I am having dinner at a steakhouse with my boyfriend Valentine’s Day night.” Spanish teacher Nico Severini comments that, “A home-cooked meal is a great way to celebrate, and me and my wife make crepes for dessert.” Many couples also enjoy doing activities on top of having dinner together. Gavin Fisher ’27 shares, “Me and my girlfriend are excited to do pottery painting at Color Me Mine the day of Valentine’s Day and then go to dinner in Wayne that night.” Caden Arnold ’27 comments, “Me and my girlfriend did Valentine’s Day candle-making at Corks and Candles a couple years ago which was a great way to celebrate together.” Some students mentioned gift-giving as a fun and meaningful way to show appreciation to your boyfriend or girlfriend. Cromer says, “Last year I made a gift basket for my boyfriend, filled with chocolates, candy, and other goodies; it was affordable and a fun thing to put together.”
Even though it is often seen as a couples-only holiday, Valentine’s Day really is a celebration of love in all of its forms, including familial and platonic affection. The term “Galentine’s Day” has become popular and has encouraged the celebration of friendships on the holiday. Harper Gust ’27 shares, “My friends and I are going to have a Galentine’s Day meal on a day close to Valentine’s Day, with food and a gift exchange.” Ceci Roberts ’27 noted, “Once I celebrated Valentine’s Day with my friends and we all brought different trays of food for dinner: a Chick-fil-A board, a chocolate covered fruit board, a cheese board, and more.” Valentine’s Day can also be celebrated alongside other things. Maggie Weinstein ’26 explains, “My birthday is the 13th so my camp friends are coming to see me on Valentine’s Day and we are all celebrating both my birthday and the holiday together. It is nice to get to be with them on a fun holiday!” Weinstein also mentions, “I plan to buy chocolates for some of my other friends to show my appreciation for them!” Along with friendships, family time is another important part of the holiday. Severini adds, “We do crafts with my son, and I will have him do a craft and give it to his mom.” Other students mention that they exchange gifts like jelly cats, gift baskets, or candy between them and their parents or siblings.
Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to show appreciation for the important people in our lives and our LM community has found creative ways to celebrate. Whether the holiday is marked by nice dinners, fun activities, or thoughtful gifts, Valentine’s Day remains a time to honor special connections and friendships with the people whom we love and care about.
