Boys Soccer Update

Update on the Boys Soccer team so far this season

The Aces kicked off the 2023 boys’ soccer season with a flaming hot eight wins, two draws, and two losses including a crucial win at Radnor on the road. It is a big year for the team as they look to continue their dominance throughout the regular season, districts, and states. Last year, Coach Nico Severini led the Aces to a Central League and district title as well as an appearance in the Pennsylvania state final. They finished with a new record of 23 wins and only two losses. This year, Coach Severini plans to prioritize the team’s health down the stretch after they lost a considerable portion of the team to injuries last year.

As for 2023, the Aces are coming off a difficult loss to the very strong team from Conestoga. A similar series of events took place last year when the Aces took a regular season loss to Conestoga and bounced back to take them down in the district final. Varsity athlete Grant Curry ’24 stated after the game, “We’re gonna keep moving forward and keep our heads up. During the back end of the season, we’re looking to build up momentum and confidence as we enter the playoffs.” This is exactly what we should expect from the Aces as they improved tactically throughout their entire season last year and hope to repeat that progression this year. LM is hungry to get back to another district game against Conestoga. Anticipate Severini to make all the adjustments necessary for the Aces to take down one of their strongest rivals. Another notable moment in the season so far was when the Aces took down their school district rival, the Harriton Rams, who had a solid record of eight wins, one draw, and two losses. This game was all about LM. At Harriton’s home field, the Aces steamrolled the Rams in a dominant 6-1 win. David Miller ’24 had a phenomenal outing with a goal and an assist, which ultimately earned him the honor of Main Line Athlete of the Week. Such an impressive feat is very rare but was also achieved last year by former LM soccer player, Central League MVP, and All American: Sam Nyenka. Despite the Aces’ previous accomplishments, their aspirations for the season are very high. With a difficult final six-game stretch, the Aces will strive to finish the season with six straight wins and gain some momentum for districts. If they can do so, expect the Aces to attain a prestigious top-five seed come the playoffs.
